Outdoor Science Labs: 4-H Environmental Education Program

Funded through the Triangle Community Foundation: $10,000 in 2019 and $25,000 in 2020

PCC is working with Outdoor Science Labs to develop and implement an environmental education program focused on increasing awareness and knowledge of water quality issues within the Eno River and Haw River watersheds and their impact on the water quality and ecological health of the Neuse River Basin and Cape Fear River Basin. The project will target Orange and Chatham County 4-H students and their families, promoting collaboration between different local and regional environmental conservation entities.

  • Hands-on, outdoor based educational curriculum and protocols that focus on water quality and conservation activities, and service projects for local watersheds and river basins.
  • Conservation projects (e.g., riparian buffer restoration; river clean-ups, and invasive species removal) completed in collaboration with local government.
  • 4-H student-developed materials for peer and public presentations (e.g., posters, 4-H website).
  • Qualitative and quantitative data summaries for a summative program evaluation report.
