Black Creek Restoration

Funded by the Clean Water Management Trust Fund ($400,000) and the EPA 319 NPS Program ($90,000).

The project will remove three eroding dams and restore 2,300 linear feet of Black Creek in Cary, NC. Additionally, 2.3 acres of floodplain wetlands will be restored and 3.1 acres enhanced. The project also involves stormwater stabilization and treatment measures to protect the finished work (e.g., retrofitting several outfall areas and the development of a regenerative conveyance design for 350 feet of an ephemeral portion of the stream channel).

The Beechtree HOA is the sole owner of the project area and will place 32 acres into a conservation easement. The HOA owns and maintains a greenway alongside the creek, which is highly trafficked by pedestrians and cyclists in the community.
